Gioielli Cappello del Gondoliere Il gondoliere è uno dei simboli portanti dell'immagine di Venezia nel mondo e rappresenta la storia e la tradizione della Serenissima Repubblica. La figura professionale del gondoliere esiste a Venezia almeno dal 1094 e la categoria è tutt’oggi protetta da regolamenti ed è tutelata dall'Associazione Gondolieri di Venezia. Anticamente era anche un mestiere ereditario. Oggi il gondoliere è colui che guida e governa la tipica imbarcazione veneziana chiamata Gondola, trasportando i passeggeri, prevalentemente turisti, per i canali della città lagunare. Per diventare gondoliere bisogna superare un esame di abilitazione che prevede prove di navigazione, conoscenza della città e delle regole del traffico acqueo e si stima che oggi ci siano circa 400 gondolieri attivi a Venezia. I gondolieri indossano una tipica divisa composta da pantaloni neri, camicia bianca e il caratteristico "cappello del gondoliere". Il cappello risale almeno al XVIII secolo e si è affermato come tipico copricapo dei gondolieri, diventando un simbolo del mestiere e di Venezia nel mondo. Solitamente è realizzato in paglia di Vienna, un tipo di paglia molto resistente all'acqua, all’usura, al sole e alle intemperie in genere.
